Applications for recognition of Italian citizenship by descent must be presented to the Italian consulate or embassy that serves where you live.
IMPORTANT: You may not apply at the Consulate or Embassy of your choice. You must apply at the Consular authority that has jurisdiction over your place of permanent residence. This includes applying in Italy–you must be a resident in Italy to apply directly in Italy.
For the purposes described here, “permanent residence” is the place where you keep your habitual dwelling (i.e. you pay bills there, have a State-issued ID at that address, etc.).
Beware of Scams: Safeguard Your Italian Citizenship Appointment
When pursuing Italian citizenship, individuals may encounter various online services, agencies, or individuals offering to secure early consulate appointments in exchange for a fee. However, we strongly advise against engaging with such offers.
**1. Deceptive Offers and Red Flags:
- Websites, agencies, or individuals claiming to book early appointments for a fee should raise immediate concerns.
- The Consulate General of Italy firmly states that there is no official connection between the Consulate and these entities.
**2. Protecting Your Interests:
- We urge all applicants to exercise caution and not succumb to paying fees for appointment bookings.
- These services do not enhance your chance of securing an appointment and may lead to financial loss and wasted efforts.
**3. Consulate's Position:
- The Consulate General asserts its authority to take necessary action against suspect or discovered appointments made through paid services.
- Such actions may include cancellation of appointments obtained through unauthorized means.
In conclusion, your Italian citizenship journey should be safeguarded from potential scams. Rely on official channels and the Consulate General to guide you through the proper procedures and ensure a fair and transparent process.
